Alphington Private Wealth - Peter Jacob

Meet Peter Jacob

Alphington Private Wealth - Peter Jacob

Peter has spent more than two decades at the sharp end of investment management and private wealth - first inside three of Australia’s most demanding financial institutions, and now building something he believes works better.

At Westpac Private Bank, ANZ Corporate and Institutional Banking, and AXA Funds Management, Peter advised some of the most sophisticated investors in the country: major superannuation funds, corporations, and ultra-high-net-worth individuals. He has managed private client portfolios worth up to $140 million. That institutional foundation gave him an unusually clear view of how investment decisions are actually made and where the industry consistently gets it wrong.

What he observed was a profession focused on marketing and selling investments at the expense of something far more important: whether clients were actually on track to live the life they wanted. Returns matter. But returns in isolation tell you very little. The real question - the one most advisers never ask - is whether your money is working for you.

Clarity creates confidence. When clients understand exactly what their money is doing and why, the noise of the market stops being a distraction.”

The Lifestyle Model

That insight - developed over 14 years advising high-income professionals and executives - is at the heart of The Lifestyle Model. Peter’s approach starts not with markets, but with people. What does your life need to look like? What does your money need to do to make that possible? And are you genuinely on track to get there?

The Lifestyle Model maps a client’s complete financial picture - income, assets, liabilities, spending, and goals - across their entire lifetime. It identifies where the gaps are, what the trade-offs look like, and what needs to change. It turns abstract financial planning into a clear, visual picture that clients can understand, question, and act on.

The bucket fills.  Every source of income and assets - salary, super, investment properties, dividends - is mapped and projected across the client’s lifetime.

The bucket drains.  Actual lifestyle costs are modelled in detail: travel, school fees, property decisions, one-off goals, and everything in between.

We manage the gap.  The model projects cash flow to age 100, identifying exactly when money may run short and what the options are to change that.

For Peter’s clients - professionals and executives who earn well but often find their lifestyle expanding to meet their income - this level of clarity is frequently the first time they have seen their full financial picture in one place. It is also the foundation that makes everything else possible.
